Skateboarding has been a lighthouse for me during the pandemic, being posted in Montreal meant some grueling Winter months, though there were some occasions where the weather recipe was just right, the ground would be dry, but the SAND. It gets into everything, your shoes, grip tape, fingers, oh it’s a total nightmare.
Now that life is slowly dipping its toes back into some sense of normalcy, more skateboarders are out and about, and it appears that Montreal is increasingly becoming a skate-friendly city, with new skateparks popping up in and around the island, it’s a revolution I definitely love seeing. Bike lanes allow you to zip about, each spot being somewhat close in distance.
I love how skateboarding allows me to focus on what is in front of me, it challenges me in ways that are unexpected, and it pushes me to keep striving for more. As my skill progress, my board allows me to reach places I could never imagine. The satisfaction from it all is by far the best feeling you can ever have. If you look around a skate park, at someone try repeatedly to land a trick they have stuck on their mind, if you catch them the moment that they land it, their expression is priceless, and you can even share the moment with them if no one’s around.
Long story short, I love skateboarding, it makes me feel alive and brings a smile to my face, a feeling I wish and hope many more are able to experience!
